About Parade of Brass Bands

Brass Bands is a conceptual, self-initiated project Wave made as a student project at the British Higher School of Art and Design — one Natalya still wants in the portfolio. The subject is a city parade of brass instruments, and rather than show the city directly, Wave depicted the instruments with the city reflected in their mirrored surfaces, implying the city parade rather than stating it. The technique used 3D design with different textures (not AI at the time, though it is the kind of thing now easy to execute and scale with AI). The identity leans on a device of isolating one large object on a white background with very precise, small typography: the instruments themselves became the basis of the dynamic identity, drawing attention by their scale, and as the viewer looks closer they read that it is something belonging to the city, then read the small type — emerging like little teeth from the instruments — that tells them where and when to come. The project shows an attention-grab followed by a reward of detail.
